Your responsibility as a researcher

You are responsible for the content, design and conduct of your study. Joinalyse provides the platform that hosts your survey and helps you reach participants. It is not a co-author, supervisor or ethics body for your research.

Ethical conduct and approval

You confirm that your study follows the research-ethics rules of your university or institution, and that you hold any ethics approval it requires. Do not run studies that deceive, harm or distress participants without a proper, approved basis for doing so.

Participants and consent

Taking part in your survey is always voluntary. Be honest and clear about the purpose of your study, how long it takes, and what you ask of participants. Respect a participant's choice to stop at any time, and never pressure anyone to take part or to continue.

The data you collect

You are the controller of the response data you collect through your survey, and you must handle it lawfully, including under the GDPR. Only ask for data your study genuinely needs. Do not collect special-category or otherwise sensitive data (such as health, religion or political views) unless you have a lawful basis and have told participants clearly.

Acceptable use

Joinalyse is for genuine academic research. The following uses are not allowed:

• Surveys must serve genuine academic or student research.
• No commercial, marketing or sales surveys disguised as research.
• No spam, harassment, or collecting data for purposes you did not disclose.
• No unlawful, hateful, deceptive or otherwise harmful content.

Joinalyse's role

Joinalyse provides the platform and the participant-matching tools. We do not review, verify or endorse individual studies, and we are not responsible for the content or outcomes of your research. We may pause or remove a survey, or an account, that breaches these terms or the law.

Additional terms for researchers

If you publish a study on Joinalyse you also take on the responsibilities of a research data controller. The full set of obligations that apply to publishers of studies is set out in a separate document, the Researcher Terms, which forms an integral part of these terms for anyone who creates or publishes a survey.

Read the Researcher Terms for the full obligations. The version in force when you publish a survey is the version that binds you for that survey. Substantive changes are re-prompted before your next publish.

Data processing agreement

Joinalyse is operated by SkyWise International B.V. as data controller and by Prikr as processor under a separate Data Processing Agreement (DPA). The DPA sets out how personal data is processed on our platform, the sub-processors we use, the security measures in place, the assistance we provide with data-subject requests and data-breach notifications, and our audit and international-transfer obligations under the GDPR.

Privacy statement

What the platform is not for

Joinalyse is designed for lightweight academic survey research. The following studies fall outside the scope of the platform and are not allowed:

• Studies that collect special-category personal data as defined in GDPR Article 9 (health, ethnicity, religion, political opinion, sexual orientation, biometric or genetic data) or criminal data (Article 10) without prior written approval from an Institutional Review Board or equivalent ethics committee AND without explicit double consent from each participant for the special-category processing.
• Studies with participants under 16 years of age, or accounts created by users under 16, whether as participants or as researchers. Joinalyse is not designed to obtain parental or guardian consent and does not verify age of adulthood.
• Medical clinical trials, drug or medical-device studies, and any other investigations that fall under the EU Clinical Trials Regulation (Regulation (EU) 536/2014), Medical Device Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2017/745) or comparable national legislation. Joinalyse is not a clinical-trial management system and provides none of the safeguards, oversight or reporting infrastructure such research requires.
• Studies whose purpose is speculative or wealth-generating investment research, financial-advice generation, trading-signal collection, cryptocurrency or securities research aimed at deriving profit, or any other research whose primary aim is commercial financial gain rather than academic knowledge.

Attempts to run any of the above on the platform are a material breach of these terms and may lead to immediate suspension of the survey and the researcher account, without prejudice to our right to recover damages.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability towards you for any and all claims arising out of or in connection with the platform and these terms is limited, per calendar year, to the greater of (a) the total fees paid by you or your institution to SkyWise International B.V. in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) five thousand euro (EUR 5,000).

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, reputational harm or the cost of substitute services, even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages.

Nothing in this clause limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for intent (opzet) or gross negligence (bewuste roekeloosheid) on our part, or for personal injury or death caused by our fault.

We may update these terms as the platform develops. The version shown here when you publish a survey is the version that applies to that survey.
